On-site interpreting takes place when you need a professional interpreter to physically meet with you to interpret in person. On-site interpreting is the most effective form of interpretation as it allows for direct, face-to-face contact between you, the limited-English proficient (LEP) individual, and the interpreter.
Providing interpretation on-site allows for professional interpreters to deliver immediate communication while reading body language and facial expressions, which is an important component of interpreting. It provides a platform for the interpreter to work efficiently by watching the speech patterns of all parties and interpreting at a rhythm that ensures accuracy. On-site interpreting is ideal for situations involving sensitive or emotionally challenging information as it provides all parties with a tangible language bridge that they can see, hear and feel.
Planet Language Services is committed to ensuring that our clients experience seamless communication with our interpreting services. Our professional interpreters will always arrive prepared to deliver excellent services for on-site interpretation assignments; additionally, our strict quality control processes assure that we match your needs with the most qualified interpreter for you.
Simultaneous Interpreting (Recommended for Conferences with many attendees)
Frequently used for conferences, in simultaneous interpreting The interpreter listens to the source language and interprets what the speaker is saying into the target language at the same time as it is being spoken. This takes intense concentration which requires interpreters work in teams of two or more, taking breaks every 20 to 30 minutes to render the speaker’s message as accurate as possible. Simultaneous interpreting generally requires equipment such as microphones and headsets in a variety of sound booths, including full soundproof booth, half booth where a smaller cabin-booth is set on a table.
Consecutive Interpreting (Business meetings and medical provider visits etc.)
The interpreter converts a statement or phrase after it is spoken from the source language into the target language.Consecutive interpreting is the most widely used type of on-site interpreting services and is most appropriate in smaller meetings and doctor visits. During consecutive interpreting, the speaker speaks for a few minutes (a few paragraphs), then pauses. The interpreter takes notes and then orally conveys (translates) the speaker’s message during the pause. The key element in consecutive interpreting is note taking: the interpreter must record ideas and then translate them back into the words of another language without pause.
Another form of consecutive interpreting is often called escort interpreting. If you are hosting a delegation of visitors from another country, you may want to use an escort interpreter for meeting clients at the airport, tours and excursions. Escort interpreters generally translate informal conversations.
Whisper interpreting is similar to simultaneous interpreting but the interpreter does not use a headset or microphone, rather the interpreter sits next to the person (or group of people) who require interpreting and whispers or speaks softly while interpreting in the target language. This form of interpreting is much harder on the interpreter’s voice.
This is often used for a business meeting where just one person requires interpreting, or for example, in a courtroom where someone in the back of the room requires interpreting to understand what is being said.

With or without post-editing — EMT enables you to provide fast, inexpensive translations using terminology that is unique and specific to your organization.
Translation, Editing and Proofreading
This is a three-step process. After translating, the document is sent to a second linguist who serves as an editor. The editor may make changes and corrections to the initial translation and has the final say on these edits. The editor then sends the document to the Project Manager, who provides a final proofread and quality assurance check.
